These students will now travel to Western Carolina University, Feb. 10-11 to rehearse and perform with the top students in the Western District.

 The second semester begins the 8th & 9th grader's preparation for Music Performance Adjudication (MPA). This is an adjudication festival that is held through the state and bands of every level participate. MPA is the band equivalent of an End-of-Grade/Course Testing. 

On the right side of the page under Band Files are two very important files which explain the requirements of participation in the MPA group and the calendar of events for the group.

 The following students auditioned and were selected to be in the North Carolina Western Region Jazz Band:

Avery V. - Trumpet

Steven and Avery will travel to Lenior-Rhyne University in February to practice and perform with the Western Region's best middle school jazz players!!

The WMJH Jazz Band will begin rehearsals Wednesday from 3:05-4:10.

Please return the purple jazz band contract or you will not be allowed to participate.

2011 MHS Pit Members:

If you are playing a mallet instrument, bass drum, suspended cymbal or timpani go to the right side of the page and open the 2011 MHS Pit Folder and download your instrument's practice recordings. Use these recordings to help you learn the parts so you will be prepared for the summer rehearsals on July 12 & 26 from 7:00-8:00 PM at the MHS Bandroom.

Band Camp starts August 8 and these four tunes need to be ready!!!

Beginning Band Camp will be held at East McDowell Junior High Bandroom on August 18th. It is extremely important for you to attend.

Look for the flyer under the "6th Grade Information" in the "Band Files" section.

All rising 9th graders are invited to be a part of the 2011 McDowell Marching Titan Band as a member of the pit which is the front ensemble of the marching band.

Applications need to be turned in with the $15 fee to Mrs. Lanier.

On July 31, rising 10th grade MHS band members and rising 9th grade MHS Pit members will travel to Rock Hill, SC to see the Drum Corps International NightBeat Tour of Champions.

If you are interested in going turn in $45 to Mrs. Lanier by June 10.

March 29 - Concert Band Earns Superior Rating at NC Music Performance Adjudication at Brevard College

On May 12, the following students performed solos and small ensembles at Cane Creek Middle School for judges.
